Last September, due to City of Miami budget shortfalls, funding for the historic Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center was dramatically cut. The theater has funding only to remain open through the end of March 2011.

Since September, a new not-for-profit corporation, The Olympia Center, Inc. has stepped forward with a commitment to raise the funds necessary not only to keep the theater open but to ensure its success in the future.

We at Friends of Gusman have been busy as well. Last November, we received a $100,000 Knight Arts Challenge grant from The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to initiate a program to support three to five mid-sized arts organizations in becoming ‘resident’ companies at the Olympia. The result – greater audiences for these Miami arts groups and more nights of programming at the Olympia Theater, which will also translate directly to the bottom line. Everyone wins!

But for this to happen, the theater must remain in operation. Show your support today.
